About Aimee Maree
I have been interested in computers from a young age having received my first computer "Amstrad CGA" at the age of 8 and coding small games in basic around the age of 11. Since then I have never looked back and have been privileged to watch the growth/expansion of Personal Computers, Networks and the birth of the Internet.
1997 saw me start my professional career in the fashion industry and commencing studies which lead to an Advanced Diploma in Apparel Manufacturing. Working within the areas of product development and production allowed me to gain experience on large projects such as the Sydney Olympic 2000 Games, launch of Katie's 1626 label and Crossroads label. My main area of focus in fashion was product development and visual merchandising.
Having a love of computers and with the progression of computers into the workplace I retrained myself within the area of Network Engineering, focusing on e-mail systems and web server management.
The year 2000 saw me commence formal Information Technology studies with a Scholarship in Network Engineering. Over the next four years I completed various certificates in Information Technology, Diploma in Network Engineering, Advanced Diploma in E-Security as well as industry certifications MSCA Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator, CNA Certified Novell Administrator, Cisco Networking Academy.
During my career within Network Engineering I received exposure as a network engineer within large national and international systems, all with their own degrees of complexity in the areas of managing people and computers; Inchcape Motors, Maersk, UBS Investment Bank, NSW Roads and Traffic Authority, NSW Department of Education.
2003 saw the start of greater exposure in web technologies and a strengthening of my skill-set through e-business analysis for web design and development projects. In 2005 I decided to freelance within the area of web design and development and complete my studies in the Bachelor of Applied Computing with Southern Cross University at the Lismore Campus.
During this time I took on various online tourism projects around Byron Bay and Tweed Shire. With my background was within both Windows and Linux/Unix systems administration it seemed natural to take my web development into the area of open source application development to leverage the best of both worlds.
Since 2005 I have worked within the area of Open Source web solutions architecture and integration using PHP as my language of choice for web applications. My area of focus from 2008 has been within the Drupal Content Management Framework on various large scale solutions for both enterprise and government.
During my academic and working career I have focused on making technology work for people. I am a strong believer of simplistic user interface design and empowering people through technology. I believe the internet is still in its early stages and find excitement with the knowledge of what is yet to come.
I am enthusiastic and excited about what the future holds for the internet and believe we are still at the very beginning of this technology with leaps and bounds still to be achieved.
I believe there's more innovation ahead of us than behind us. - Jeff Bezos
