Online Application Development

Below you will find some of my latest development projects, these projects have been designed to fit on all types of web sites. I have a keen interest in Google Maps API and Content Management Systems and have been working and studying in these areas for the past three years.

Google Maps Mash-up

I first started working with Google Maps API from the initial days of its conception. I had played with designing many a Google Maps system before deciding upon the idea of using PHP and SQL to allow for a content management back end so non programmers could easily add and remove property locations. The first site that this application has been installed on is Byron Style.

Byron Style needed a way to easily show people the location of accommodation properties, Google Maps API was chosen as the best way to convey the property locations. The data needed to be displayed on the map is stored in a My SQL database. This was a great test case for my Google Maps Mash-Up that i had been developing.

The data is pulled from the database using PHP, this data is then manipulated by Javascript to create a the location markers on the map and the side panel. The properties can be viewed by all types or just by their specific type such as Apartment, Holiday House etc.

The side panel was added to help users who where unfamiliar with Google maps, when a property name is clicked on the side panel the marker and info box are displayed on the map. The info box on the marker presents a short description of the property and allows the user to click through to the main property information page. Each property information page also has a small map which shows a marker of the location.

The google Maps Application can be applied to any type of web site not just accommodation web sites and also has a content management back end which allows the creation/modification and deletion of markers within the application. Content Management System

This application is a content management back end system that will allow directory web sites to enable content management of clients listings. The system allows both an administrator control and also gives control to the clients for their listing information.

The system has been developed and can be applied on various web sites, Byronbay.com was used as a test case scenario however the system has not been implemented on their web site. Images to the left show screen designs for the content management back end.

This application allows personalized design of the web site whilst allowing for a content management backbend. This application can literally be modified to any web site design and does not require a template compliance.

I believe that all web sites can be adapted to a Content Management System to allow people to update the content without code skill necessary. I have developed personalized Content Management Systems for new and existing web sites as well as adapting CMS systems and developing templates for systems such as Joomla and PHP Nuke.

Open Source Applications

PHPBB/Word Press/Joomla/Coppermine/osCommerce/PHPList/Drupal

Over the years I have worked on various My SQL and PHP open source database solutions such as PHP List, PHPBB, Joomla, Word Press, Drupal and Coppermine and enjoy being an active member in many open source community forums.

Recently started to develop modules for Drupal Content Management Framework. After using many different content management system/ framework I find Drupal to be a great development platform and a large amount of capabilities within Drupal API's.

I do not believe in re-inventing the wheel and find open source solutions a great way to enable people who are not web savvy with the means of updating and managing their own web site. As a PHP/My SQL developer I understand how these systems work and can create templates that suit all types of required designs.

With all open source projects I modify the original systems to enable businesses and individuals to get the system to work the way they need it to and to get the most out of their application with the least administration requirements. I support the open source philosophy and agreements.
