Membership

The BVC is an incorporated association (since 1999) open to membership by individuals. The membership year is concurrent with the financial year, ie, 1st July to 30th June. Members of the BVC are also members of Tourism Byron, the local tourism association.

Membership of the BVC and TB means you are an active supporter of local tourism management.

The BVC achieved Level 1 status with Tourism NSW's VIC accreditation program in 2002, and in 2005 had its accreditation renewed for a further three years. It is the only accredited VIC in Byron Shire.

Funds received through membership subscriptions are essential to the BVC's continuation. Membership fees vary according to the nature and location of your business, and the benefit options you choose.

In addition to basic membership, the BVC offers the following options at extra cost to members:

  • Business brochure display: displays are divided into sections for accommodation, tours and activities, retail and restaurants, and health and beauty. Brochure display cost depends on the type of your business and where it is located.
  • Poster display: A3 display in the relevant section of the BVC premises.
  • Accommodation booking fee: accommodation operators only pay this fee to obtain 2% lower commissions on bookings made by Byron Bay Accom.net.
  • Outside display boards: available for bookable tours and activities only.
  • Tour and Activity bookings: free bookings for visitors on a range of tours and activities at 15% commission to operators.
  • Internet listing: accommodation members have the opportunity to list with BBA, while non-accommodation members can list on byronbay.com at a discounted rate
  • Advertising discounts: opportunities to advertise in various media at member discounts.

Free benefits to members include:

  • Phone system listing: mention of caravan parks, backpackers and hostels on our rotary phone system (not bookable accommodation operators).
  • Hand out list: printed list of contact details of hostels and backpackers
  • T-shirt display: BVC staff and volunteers will wear your promotional T-shirts, badges or caps.
  • Other promotional material: ask the BVC about promoting your business through various media.
  • Tourism information: as a member of the BVC you will receive email advice about trade shows, tourism awards and travel events.
  • Membership distribution: subject to board approval, members have access to other members through the email database.

Please call our membership secretary on 02 6680 9271 for more membership information.

In addition to the above benefits, the BVC offers percentage discounts through advertising opportunities. For example, the Here&Now free map produced in conjunction with the BVC offers members a discounted advertising rate. Non-accommodation internet advertisers who are members of the BVC receive a 10% discount when advertising on the byronbay.com web site.

As a member of the BVC you can further your business by offering gift vouchers.

All members of the BVC must be properly insured and licensed to operate their business. Please see the BVC's Terms and Conditions of membership.
