PHP MiniConf Scedule Released

The OSDC PHP Mini Conference has been released.

http://phpcamp.net.au/schedule

I am pretty happy with the talks as I feel it covers a good range of PHP in a short time frame. Feel the mini conference is coming together quite nicely and hopefully will provide the community with a networking opportunity and interesting information.

I decided to open the last twenty minutes for lighting talks. Hopefully will get some people to jump up and give a talk, would be good to have a case study or two. Read more »

School of PHP

Recently Nick Hodge (Open Source Evangelist) from Microsoft asked me if I would like to do an introduction for the new School of PHP that Microsoft was launching. The School of PHP is a very cool idea and I could not say no to something that could get more people into PHP development.

The school is an online course which has video tutorials that help walk people through writing web applications with PHP using Microsoft Technologies. Read more »

Syd PHP Febuary Meet-up

Attended the first PHP user group meet-up in Sydney. Was great to see the PHP guys again as always great discussions. The talks were on security and presented by Yahoo.

@jazdor showed some main security issues with PHP, cross site scripting, SQL injection, man in the middle attacks. He showed some easy ways that people can use these holes to attack a website. He presented with both slides and live demos so we actually got to see what he was talking about in live action. Read more »

The state of PHP

During the Linux Conference mini conf days held on Monday and Tuesday @chrsjnr ran a day of talks about open source code. Adam Harvey from php.net presented a talk in which he was inspired by a talk given at Pycon last year on the state of Python. It is presented in a tongue and check way and very well done. If your a PHP fan or not it is worth a watch and a good laugh.

The day was organised with a series of short talks and workshops held in one room. The event attracted small interest at first and rapidly gained exposure closer to the day. Read more »
